All graduate students must submit an approved study list by the end of their first semester of graduate study. The list is approved by the advisor, other members of the graduate committee, and the graduate coordinator.
Graduate advisors are mutually selected by a student and a member of the faculty. The graduate advisor must be a member of the faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The advisor must be selected before the end of the first semester of graduate enrollment. Your graduate advisor will supervise your thesis research and arrange for funding. (Initially the graduate coordinator will sponsor all new graduate students. He continues as the graduate advisor for non-thesis students.)
In consultation with his/her advisor, each thesis student will select a graduate committee during the first semester of graduate study. This committee shares with the graduate advisor the responsibility for advising and directing concerning course work, degree requirements and thesis or dissertation research. Committees will consist of (at minimum) three members for the masters and five members for the doctoral programs. The majority of each committee must be Mechanical Engineering faculty. Thesis students are required to submit an annual progress review to their committee.
