BS/MS Integrated Program

BYU students who have been accepted into the ME department professional program and who desire to obtain the MS in mechanical engineering, may elect to enter the integrated BS/MS program during their junior year by filling out the necessary form obtained from the ME Graduate Advisor. The purpose of the program is to afford greater flexibility in scheduling course work than is normally available through the BS degree program followed by the MS degree program; however, the course load is the same as if the BS and MS were earned separately.

Please note that it is possible for students to take up to 10 credits of upper-level coursework as an undergraduate and reserve them toward the MS. In most cases this will allow students adequate flexibility without formally entering the BS/MS Integrated Program. The necessary form for reserving credit can be obtained from the ME Graduate Advisor.

In the BS/MS Integrated Program the BS degree must be received simultaneously with the MS degree. Specific requirements for admission and for obtaining the MS degree are the same as those listed for the MS in mechanical engineering; however, admission to graduate school must occur before taking the final two semesters of combined BS/MS course work in order to meet the requirement of paying two semesters of full-time graduate tuition.
