The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Brigham Young University provides strong academic programs and conducts cutting-edge research in mechanical engineering. The department has 25 full-time faculty and 8 full-time staff, and has an external research budget of approximately $3.3 million plus an additional $0.5 million in external funds for the Capstone Program.
The department has an ABET accredited mechanical program and grants approximately 140 undergraduate (B.S.) and 35 graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) degrees annually. Incoming students have an average ACT score and GPA of 28.6 and 3.74, respectively. Over 90% of graduating seniors have served missions for the LDS Church, and over 70% are married.
