The Mechanical Engineering Department at Brigham Young University is happy to welcome a new faculty member. Dr. Eric Homer joined the ME Department in August 2011, and will begin teaching classes Fall Semester.
Dr. Homer was born in Redlands, California and raised in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. He received his BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from BYU, and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was the recipient of a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship while at MIT. Following his work at MIT, he held a postdoctoral appointment at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Dr. Homer works in the field of computational materials science and engineering. He enjoys investigating the mechanical behavior of amorphous metals and interfaces in polycrystalline metals using a variety of computational methods and materials models.
In his spare time, Dr. Homer enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarah, and their three children. He also enjoys waterskiing, volleyball, programming and the excuse to play Legos with his kids.
Please join the faculty and staff of the Mechanical Engineering Department in welcoming our new colleague!
