Transfer Students

Transfer students are welcomed into the Department of Mechanical Engineering at BYU as they bring diverse experiences that will enrich their program. BYU policy regarding transfer credits are explained at: https://enrollment.byu.edu/registrar/transfer-evaluation. Students can search equivalency of courses either by school or specific course, by clicking on Course Equivalency Search.

The University Transfer Evaluation Office will typically evaluate just the courses that apply toward General Education requirements. Upon admission, an email of notification is sent to the student. Questions about the notification should be directed to the Transfer Evaluation Office at 801-422-8522.

Courses specific to the Mechanical Engineering major are normally evaluated at the department level. Students should contact the undergraduate advisor before registering for classes, who will assist in evaluating technical courses already taken, and identify additional courses required for admission to the Mechanical Engineering Professional Program.

Equivalent courses transferred from an ABET-accredited school can be used in applying to the ME Professional Program. Non ABET-accredited courses can be counted toward graduation; however, they cannot be used in the application process. Students must either take the equivalent BYU course, or take the next course in the sequence. Transfer students will be considered for provisional admission for one semester based on transferred courses. For further information see Applying for the Professional Program.
