  • Capstone teams will receive a team swipe card permission form at the beginning of the Fall semester. ALL team members follow the instructions to complete the required Y- Train modules and final hands-on training with Dave Laws or Kevin Cole. Swipe card access can then be processed for each team member.
  • For other individuals NOT on a Capstone Team: please complete the online training above, then get the Swipe Card Permission Slip (from CTB 435) signed by Dave Laws or Kevin Cole (who will verify need for access and go over any applicable hands-on training).

The 3D printers have moved! The Prototyping Lab (formerly known as the Projects Lab) is now in charge of the 3D printers. They are located in 117 EB. Now, the 3D printers will be run primarily by shop TAs. Schedule a consultation on their website, https://byuprojectslab.simplybook.me/sheduler/manage, then bring a .stl file with the part you want printed. The TAs will consult with you about your design constraints and prepare your model for printing, optimizing the print for the constraints you’ve identified. The part will then be placed in a print queue, prioritizing research and class projects. You will be notified once your part is ready for pickup. Prices are $0.15/gram for PLA plastic, minimum $5.00 total cost, and $0.50/gram for resin, minimum $10.00 total cost. Your parts, however, are guaranteed to be up to the specifications discussed in the consultation. See the Prototyping Lab for any other questions.

After completing the online building training go to Dave Laws or Kevin Cole for final hands on training. After completion you will receive a signed form that you can take to CTB 435 for card activation (usually takes 1-2 days).

Before the first time you use the Shopbot, review the training materials and then schedule Kevin Cole or one of his TA's when you are ready to cut (see Project Support above).
